Senior Accountant

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide data and collaborate with ALM vendor to ensure appropriate measurement of interest rate and liquidity risks, review reports to ensure accuracy of input and assumptions to ensure appropriateness and documentation.
  • Assist Chief Financial Officer with bond purchase documentation and analysis and staying current on economic market conditions and trends.
  • Back up Accounting Manager for critical deliverables including Call Reports, reconciliations, among others.
  • Support and maintain the pricing model to ensure offering rates are competitive and support profitable margins. Work with lending and retail operations to ensure that pricing supports their goals in terms of volume, as well as the overall goals of the bank in achieving profitability.
  • Prepare the bank’s annual budget and three-year projections.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation for investment portfolio is maintained.
  • Perform analysis of product profitability and as appropriate, make recommendations to improve financial performance.
  • Serve as a member of ALCO and Pricing Committee and provide analysis and recommendations. Assist with committee projects as assigned.
  • Assist in the preparation and issuance of timely and complete annual audited financial statements, including the completion of the audit report.
  • Perform responsibility center analysis to attribute revenues and costs to various functions, distribution channels and business lines of the bank. This is intended to serve as a foundation for transition to general ledger-based cost center accounting as part of the infrastructure to support the strategic plan.
  • Review current accounting related policy and procedures on a recurring basis for necessary changes or improvements.
  • Gain a strong understanding of internal accounting and core processing software.
  • Assist Chief Financial Officer with various department projects as assigned and continually strive to improve procedures and find efficiencies where applicable.
  • Maintain educational and professional expertise through attendance at job related seminars, conferences and workshops and involvement in professional and community groups in leadership positions.
  • Support Vendor Management function by completing financial analysis of critical vendors and reviewing contracts’ financial terms.
  • Participate in and promote Bank-Sponsored events as outlined in the Community Events Program.
  • Perform additional duties as they become assigned or apparent.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Previous work history with financial institutions in accounting, auditing or related position
  • High level analytical, communication and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of regulatory environment (federal, state and local) governing financial institutions
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with coworkers, internal and external auditors, regulatory agencies, correspondent banks and others
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to continually learn and grow within the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration or equivalent business experience. 

Experience:  Two or more years of progressively responsible experience for a community bank, accounting firm or mid-sized company.
