Donnis Borcherding Announces Retirement

Donnis started her banking career in September of 1978 at Hampton State Bank in the bookkeeping department. After 6 months, she moved into a Teller role at the bank’s drive-up facility. After a period of time, she moved back to bookkeeping to learn deposit operations.

“In a small community bank, you wear many hats, and you learn different skills,” said Donnis. “Even though you might be a Teller or a Bookkeeper or whatever it is within a small bank, you learn so much more.”

That is how Donnis developed her skillset—through learning on the job.

As Donnis learned how deposits and loans worked, she had to learn more about compliance. After that, she became involved with marketing and communicating information about products and services to customers.

In December of 2015, 36 years into Donnis’ banking career, Hampton State Bank merged with First Security Bank.

Now, 45 years into her career, Donnis has announced plans to retire from her role as Vice President, Operations Manager at First Security.

“I’ve enjoyed this role. My goal has always been to help keep our customers money safe and to help them find different products and services to meet their needs.” said Donnis.

“Customer service has always been a top priority for Donnis. She treats customers with great respect and kindness,” Chief Administrative Officer Heidi Worrall said. “She has been such an important presence for the customers and employees at both the Hampton location and throughout the rest of the bank.”

It is rare for a person to spend 45 years in the banking industry. First Security is fortunate to have two current employees that have reached that milestone. One is Donnis, and the other her coworker and friend Michelle Schaefer.

“There is a special sharing of life. We learned the job together, we have children that are close in age, we’ve shared ups and downs, laughs and tears throughout our lives. Working together is a lifelong memory to look back on,” said Michelle. “Donnis will be missed for sure by our customers, coworkers, and myself. We wish her all the very, very best in all the fun things she has ahead of her!”

After retirement, Donnis plans to work with her daughter at the family business which includes a vacation home called Country Heritage Inn and a newly built event center called The Barn. Donnis and her husband also plan to do some traveling to Branson and to Wyoming, where their other daughter now lives.

First Security will hold a private celebration in Donnis’ honor. Her last day at First Security will be June 7th.
