First Security Foundation Announces $10k Contribution to Franklin County Fair Grandstand Construction
Iowa winters can be cold, brutal, and unforgiving, and residents of the state will do anything to stay inside in the warmth of their homes. Schedules in winter include fireplaces, hot chocolate, and spending time with family. It's just the opposite in summer, however, because each of the 99 counties in Iowa has its own unique celebration: county fairs!
This summer, it is the Franklin County Fair's 165th-anniversary. Elle King, Tracy Byrd, Dialed Action Motorsports, and the Heuer Rodeo are some of the events scheduled for this year. Amusement rides, fried foods, and lots of fun activities are part of the fair as well.
Currently, the Franklin County Fair Grandstand is where performances occur. Behind the bleachers, the pathway to the restroom is gravel, which is difficult for those with a wheelchair, walker, cane, or seeing-eye dog to access. Franklin County residents need an upgrade to this area of the fairgrounds, and the Franklin County Fair Association is working hard to make that happen.
Upgrades to the Grandstand include pavement where there is currently gravel and other improvements. These changes will cost around $95,000. Fundraising includes grants and donations, as well as a $10,000 contribution from the First Security Foundation.
First Security employee and Franklin County resident Kayleigh Bass says, “Franklin County takes pride in our county fair. These upgrades will create a significant positive impact, improving patrons’ experiences for future events. It’s a huge benefit to our town and those that visit from near and far.”
