First Security Supports Hampton Tree Board with $2000 Donation

First Security recently contributed $2000 toward the Hampton Tree Board’s Arbor Day 2020 Project. The Board’s goal was to plant a variety of trees at the middle school and North Side Elementary School in Hampton.

“Unfortunately, Hampton will eventually have to replace many Ash trees due to the Emerald Ash Borer,” commented Randy Sanders of the Hampton Tree Board. “So, one of our goals is making sure we diversify the species we plant so that one disease can’t eliminate the majority of our town’s trees. We also want to educate community members so they know how to choose and care for the trees they plant on their own.”

Just some of the tree species that were planted included Princeton Elm, Redmond Linden, Northern Red Oak, Swamp White Oak, Northern Pin Oak, Hackberry, and Ginkgo. Ten trees were planted at the North Side Elementary School and twenty have been planted at the middle school.

“As kids go back to school in the fall, they’ll be greeted by a new and pleasant view,” continued Sanders. “The trees will provide more color to the landscaping, and they’ll contribute to energy savings and providing shade for the students and school staff. Replacing the dying Ash trees with this new, young variety makes the area safer for neighborhood kids when they play outside, as well.”
