First Security Foundation Announces $15,000 Contribution to Rockwell American Legion Post 208 for New Building

The American Legion was chartered by an Act of Congress in 1919 as a veterans’ organization; WWI vets returned to the USA exhausted, weary, and in need of assistance. The organization flourished, with membership today sitting at 1.6 million people at more than 12,000 posts worldwide (source).

The Rockwell Legion Post 208 will build a brand new American Legion Club in Rockwell, IA. They will tear down two old buildings on Main Street, and the new American Legion will replace them. This will both improve Rockwell’s Main Street and honor the community’s veterans and active-duty military members.

The Rockwell Legion Post 208 has been fundraising for this project for 12 years, and it will be costly. Projected final costs sit at $515,000, and through their decade-plus of working on this project, the Rockwell Legion Post 208 raised $365,000[KS1]  (as of November 2024). They have held many fundraisers, received grants, donations, and utilized support from the community.

The First Security Foundation is proud to have donated $15,000 to the new American Legion Club and contribute to veterans and active-duty members alike. Long time First Security employee Stacie Peterson said, “Getting this new building for the American Legion has been a long process! The American Legion members have worked very hard on this project for quite a few years. This new building will give a fresh new look to Main St. and give the community of Rockwell another good gathering place. I am so proud that the First Security Foundation was able to have a part in helping the American Legion’s dream come true.”
