Ron Raney Announces Retirement
After a long career in lending and bank leadership, Ron Raney has announced his plans to retire on December 10th, 2021.
Ron started his banking career at Household Finance right out of college. He then moved on to Perry State Bank, Security State Bank of Hubbard, Hampton State Bank, and finally First Security Bank. He has been involved in lending throughout his career. In April of 2012 he took on the additional role of President of Hampton State Bank. When Hampton State Bank became First Security Bank, Ron was appointed Market President and also became a member of the Senior Management team.
Ron has been a member of the Hampton area community since 1997 and has been a very involved volunteer since that time.
“Ron has always been committed to the community he works & lives in,” said Mark Miller, Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer at First Security. “It’s made evident by his community involvement and longevity as a volunteer for many organizations.”
Ron has been a member of the Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, the Hampton Ambassadors, the Summerfest Committee, the RAGBRAI Central Committee, Yes! For Hampton-Dumont Students, Rotary, Franklin General Hospital Foundation, Hampton-Dumont School Board, Hampton-Dumont School Improvement Advisory Committee, and the Hampton-Dumont Scholarship Fund.
“He’s also dedicated to the financial well-being of his customers,” continued Mark. “He listens well and is able to offer solutions based on his depth of knowledge while working in banking. He has been a true leader for staff he’s worked with over his career.”
Ron’s favorite part of his career are the people, both coworkers and customers, he’s worked with and served over the years.
Two coworkers, Michelle Schaefer and Donnis Borcherding, have worked with Ron throughout his time at
Hampton State Bank and First Security Bank. They also mentioned Ron’s leadership in both the community and banking as well as his dedication to customers and coworkers.
“Ron has always been there to lend a hand with any of our requests. It has been an honor to work with him and he will be greatly missed,” commented Donnis.
Michelle added, “He’s shared many talents throughout our time working together. I’ve learned many things from him. We wish him well and hope he enjoys the rewards of a job well done!”
Ron’s coworkers know he’s very family oriented and always enjoys sharing stories of his kids and grandchildren. When asked what he looks forward to in retirement, the first thing he mentioned was “more time with kids and grandkids.”
He also is excited to spend more time traveling, playing golf, attending Iowa State football and basketball games, and woodworking.
First Security will be holding a private celebration in Ron’s honor on his last day, December 10th. However, the public is welcome to stop by First Security Bank in Hampton (100 1st St. NW) on December 3rd to wish Ron a happy retirement.
