First Security Welcomes Cleo Spencer as Senior Ag Lender

First Security Bank and Trust is pleased to share that Cleo Spencer has joined the bank as Senior Ag Lender.

Cleo is originally from Idaho, where he grew up in a small agricultural community. He later joined the military and then received an associate’s degree in business administration from the College of Southern Idaho and a bachelor's degree in accounting from Boise State University.

Cleo joins with both hands-on ag experience as well as years of banking experience. He has worked as a lender with a focus on row crops and cattle operations while owning a registered cow-calf operation. He also was the CEO of a company that grew seed and processed potatoes, and most recently, he owned an aviation company that sprayed and sold chemicals.

In his new role as Senior Ag Lender, he will be involved in training other staff on the Ag/Commercial Lending Team.

“One of my passions is helping other people develop, and I look forward to doing that here,” said Cleo. “I am looking forward to getting back into ag lending, and I enjoy smaller communities like the ones First Security serves.”

Chief Lending Officer Scott Smits added, "Cleo’s deep knowledge of row crop and cattle operations, combined with his passion for ag, makes him a valuable asset to our team. His ability to teach others about lending and proactively seek new opportunities — whether attending auctions or connecting with farmers — reflects his commitment to supporting rural communities. Cleo’s values align with ours, ensuring that we meet the goal of building and protecting our customers’ legacies.”

Outside of work, Cleo enjoys hunting and is traditionally a volunteer with Kiwanis and 4-H. However, he is currently busy with relocating his family of 6 to the Charles City area and exploring all it has to offer.
